Dr. Mark Lindman
Featherstone Periodontics
& Implant Dentistry

Dr. Lindman is a native of Rockford, Illinois and a 1977 graduate of Guilford High School. His undergraduate education was undertaken at North Park University in Chicago, with a double major in natural science and art. Dr. Lindman received his professional degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1985. His graduate training in periodontics was completed at Northwestern University College of Dentistry, where he received a Certificate Degree in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree. While at Northwestern, Dr. Lindman was actively involved in clinical research studying different pain control and sedation techniques in periodontics. Dr. Lindman has also received graduate training in laser surgical techniques, dental implants, and advanced bone grafting techniques. He has been placing dental implants since 1984 and has lectured extensively on the subject.

One of the great joys of dentistry for Dr. Lindman is the pace of change and the opportunities that new technologies and procedures bring. The opportunities that dental implants brought in 1984 were enormous. They have changed and molded nearly every aspect of our patient care. So what is Dr. Lindman most proud of?

His first implant case was a fixed hybrid restoration on 5 implants, very similar to our current All on 4. At that time (1987) the feeling was that implant surgery should only be done in a hospital, so he convinced the surgery department at Swedish American Hospital to purchase all of the implants, drills, hand pieces and motors necessary to place Branemark (now Nobel) implants. Fittingly, his first patient was his grandfather’s surgical nurse and mother of Dr. Bill Shold, a now retired Rockford dentist, Lillian Shold.  The five implants he placed in her lower, edentulous arch went in without complication and were then restored by Dr. Shold six months later as per the protocol of that time. Lillian passed away ten years ago at 92 but proudly told and retold the story of how she received the first implant bridge placed in Northern Illinois.

This embrace of new research, techniques and technology has been the hallmark of our practice since 1987. The firsts are numerous and with some procedures, Featherstone Periodontics and Implant Dentistry is still the only clinic providing cutting edge surgical periodontal and implant treatment.
