Full Mouth Dental Implants in Rockford, Dixon, Janesville, and Madison
In addition to negatively impacting the aesthetic appearance of your smile, the loss of a tooth or multiple teeth can seriously compromise your overall physical and oral health, and cause additional issues to develop, such as jaw joint pain, change in your bite, loss of bone, and teeth to drift or shift. Losing several teeth also inhibits your ability to eat and can cause your face to sag over time, making you appear older then you are.
Full mouth dental implants are a safe and effective treatment option for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth and/or for patients who are currently dissatisfied with their dentures. Full mouth dental implants provide a natural feeling and natural looking correction to the loss of teeth and will restore you back to full functionality, preserve the health of your surrounding teeth, and reduce your risk of developing additional physical or oral health issues.
With over 60,000 dental surgeries performed and over 20,000 dental implants placed, you can be confident that you will receive high quality care from established professionals that is designed to meet your unique needs. What to Expect During the Full Mouth Dental Implant Process
Prior to performing placement of full mouth dental implants, we will conduct an in depth dental and medical health history review to determine the underlying reason why full mouth dental implants are necessary. This process will include an examination of your bite and for any indications of loose teeth, bone loss, TMJ, oral cancer, or signs of periodontal disease.
Once the underlying cause has been identified and it is determined that implant supported dentures are the appropriate treatment option for you, it will be necessary to take diagnostic exams (CT scan and X-Rays) to determine the precise placement of the implant and determine the number of implants necessary. Once this is determined and the optimal locations are marked, the procedure will begin with administration of a local anesthetic and/or sedation. If necessary, this will be followed by the extraction of any teeth that need to be removed. Next, titanium posts are strategically place in your gums. Once these posts are properly positioned, you will need to wait several months for the posts to fully integrate with the jawbone (osseointegration). During this period, temporary teeth will be placed to reduce your risk of developing an infection and allow you to preserve a full, healthy smile.
As soon as the jawbone has fully fused with the dental implants, a dental implant abutment is placed, which will connect the new tooth to the dental implant. Once in place, we will evaluate the overall fit and aesthetic appearance to ensure it matches aesthetically and provides you with optimal functional support. If it is determined that the implant meets these criteria, the dental implant process will be complete, and you can begin to enjoy your bright, new, full healthy smile.

Aftercare Following Full Mouth Dental Implants
Following the surgical placement of full mouth dental implants, it is essential to follow these, and any additional post-operative instructions provided by your periodontist to minimize risks and enjoy a fast recovery.
- To reduce pain or discomfort, take the recommended dosage of prescribed painkillers and/or over-the counter medication.
- To reduce swelling, apply an ice bag over the area for ten to fifteen minutes at a time.
- Do not spit, rinse, or use a straw for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid intense physical activity and rest as much as possible for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid brushing your teeth for the first 24 hours, after which you can resume gentle brushing. You can resume flossing your natural teeth after this period, but do not floss the dental implant. Moving forward, you should consider alternative flossing options for your dental implants, such as interdental brushes or oral irrigation.
- Eat soft foods such as applesauce, yogurt, pudding, or soup for the first two weeks and slowly reintroduce harder foods as the healing process progresses.
By following these instructions and continuing to keep your teeth and gums clean, you will enjoy a fast healing process and can return to your normal routine as quickly as possible.
