All on 4 Frequently Asked Questions

What are All on 4 implants?

A set of fabricated permanent teeth that are mounted on surgically implanted posts placed in the jawbone.  All on 4 dental  implants do not have to be removed, do not require adhesives to hold them in place, and because they allow patients to bite with up to 70% more force, people can eat all of the foods they normally do.  The implants function, look, and feel like natural teeth and can be brushed or cleaned the same way.  In addition, All on 4 implants can help restore facial features and prevent deterioration of the jawbone.

How do All on 4 implants differ from dentures?

Whereas dentures rest on top of a patient’s gums and can be removed, All on 4 implants are mounted directly into the jawbone offering a permanent, and more comfortable, remedy for damaged or missing teeth.

How do All on 4 implants compare to traditional implants?

Whereas traditional dental implants require six or more implants per arch, All on 4 require only four implants in an arch.  The All on 4 implants are put in at an angle allowing for greater contact by using the natural support of the jawbone.  Because All on 4 implants do not typically require the patient to go through bone grafting, which traditional implants commonly do, the procedure can save both money and time.

How long does All on 4 implant surgery take?

The surgical procedure takes two to three hours per arch.

What is the success rate of All on 4 implants?

According to studies, All on 4 implants have a success rate of 98%.

Who is a candidate for All on 4 implants?

People missing the majority or all their teeth or are currently wearing dentures.  If the patient is in good health, age is not a factor for the All on 4 dental implant procedure.

Where will the replacement teeth be made?

If your dentist has the lab technicians and necessary equipment at their office, the replacement teeth can be manufactured on site.

Do All on 4 implants look natural?

Yes!  All on 4 dental implants feel, function, and look like natural teeth so unless you mention it, nobody will know you have implants.

Do patients receive their permanent set of replacement teeth the same day as surgery?

In many cases, patients will receive their replacement teeth on the same day as the surgery.  In other instances, the patient may need time to heal before the permanent replacement teeth will be placed.  If the patient needs time to heal, the patient will receive a set of temporary teeth that are mounted on the implants.  Approximately four to six months later, the patient will have a follow up visit to place the permanent teeth.

Are All on 4 implants for both top and bottom arches?

All on 4 dental implants can be placed on either, or both, arches.  The dentist will evaluate your condition to determine what is best for your needs and financial situation.

How are the implants cleaned?

The implants should be flossed and brushed daily the same way as natural teeth.
